A little progress each day adds up to big results.
We are half way through January 2018…..CRAZY! Time is already flying by! I was in my Monica Geller happy place as I was making the transition into the new year. I was cleaning, reorganizing, and gearing my planner for 2018.
A lot of people don’t use paper planners anymore, they stick to their phone calendar and reminder system. Honestly, both methods are equally useful and necessary to keep life in order. However, I prefer paper—I like to physically write things out. I talked about getting organized last January, but this year I have a new addition to the organization process: a yearly journal. I always had a journal going each year but I was not fully committed. In 2017, I decided to commit myself to this additional organization tool. Also, I was re-inspired by one of my favorite YouTubers, Kalyn Nicholson (if you have not watched her, please check her videos out!).
Journaling is what you make it. By that I mean, you can take a journal and use it in the way that most benefits you. I have friends who love keeping a personal journal for their thoughts and feelings, and I have other friends who take a journal and turn it into a planner that fits into their life. For me, I take a journal and turn it into a book of goals. I use it to organize my blog posts, make long-term lists, stay on budget, and stay inspired.
I was watching Kalyn’s new year organizational video and she was sharing how she uses her journal. She mentioned that she has a word for each year—a word that embodies how you want to live the year. I loved this idea, so I decided to adopt it. My word of the year is discover.
Personally, the journal allows me to make detailed plans and keep up with my yearly goals. Here is a little list of great tips for planners, journals, and organizing life.
- use color
- doodles and drawings are a cute touch (check out Pinterest —I have a journal section in my DIY & Crafts board)
- lists are your best friend
- make goals for each day
- write out your favorite quotes, as an inspiration page
- personalize by adding photos and pictures
- Pinterest is a great place for inspiration
I hope you enjoyed this little post about getting organized for the new year. Have an amazing week and I will talk to you all very soon! If you have any organizational ideas, share them in the comments. I would love to hear them and find new ways to organize!
All the Best,
