Nothing beats a comfy coat and a good cry.
Have you ever been at an emotional crossroads in your life? It is the point where you could either have a major breakdown in the future or choose to let go at the current time. I had one last week. Luckily I was home where my mother was there for me, but sometimes that is not the case. Sometimes that emotional state burrows and pulls you down. I wanted to offer some advice. I know I may not have all the experience, but life is difficult for everyone and the best way to move past it is sharing your experience and letting go of what was once holding you down.
I wrote a post a while about bad days and how to take a bad day and turn it into a better one. Weirdly, the emotional state I am talking about now is not just your average bad day. Rather, it is instances, events, or people in your life that have done something to upset you. It can be a huge stress because words and situations can hurt. Here are a couple of tips/advice tid-bits that I found to be helpful…I hope these can help you too (in no way am I a medical professional or psychologist, these are just tips that have helped me in my experiences):
- My biggest advice for anyone reaching this crossroads is to take the latter path and find ways to let go.
Letting go is easier said than done. Trust me, I know. There are still a lot of things I am coming to terms with that I know I need to let go. Unfortunately, certain situations call for a long periods of letting go than others. Having at least one trusted person as your support is crucial. You can’t keep things bottled up or the issue will linger and become a burden.
2. Don’t get bogged down.
Emotions can take a huge toll on your everyday life. It is not just a mental state it can become a physical state as well. Getting bogged down normally occurs when you relive or continue to think about the situations that are causing the pain. It’s hard not to think about it, but you can still find a positive in your life even when it feels like the universe is working against you. It is not easy, but it is not impossible.
3. Take time out for YOU.
This can range from listening to your favorite album to having a bath. There is always at least one thing you know will brighten your spirits. It may not get rid of the feeling, but it allows you to take care of yourself. I normally love to get up earlier than everyone and make myself a cup of tea and watch one of my favorite comfort films (right now it’s The Holiday *singing Arthur’s theme song*). A lot of people may not have the time to do this, but even taking 5 minutes out of your day to put yourself first is important. Just grab a coffee or a cupcake and listen to that 3 minute song that gives you life. Don’t forget yourself. So, step back regularly and do something for you. I know someone at work that buys herself a vase of fresh flowers every week because it make her feel happy. It can be simple things like flowers that can change your mental state.
I guess, the biggest lesson was to really give yourself time to heal.
Life can really throw obstacles your way, but positively knowing how to navigate these bumps in the road is important. I guess, the biggest lesson was to really give yourself time to heal. I hope in some way this was helpful to anyone going through a similar situation. Remember, you can always rise up no matter how hard others push you down. At the end of the day, it is your choice. We can do it together 🙂
Let’s end on a happy note. I found an amazing coat that I have been drooling over. I literally can’t wait for the cooler weather so I can flaunt this beauty.
Midterms have just gone by and now I am counting the days until Thanksgiving—there are 27 if you were wondering (did you check out my Thanksgiving counter in the sidebar, or at the bottom if you are on your phone, so cool right?!). In the spirit of this beautiful season, I thought I would get a new coat. I wanted something a little outside my comfort zone but is still true to me. I think I rummaged store sites for a month or two before I finally found the fall line of coats at Target. Target is life. This coat is my love at the moment. It is soft and structured at the same time. The pattern is bold but yet classy. And the colors, oh my goodness…..the COLORS are so rich and cozy.
They definitely still sell these on the Target website, so check it out if this coat is calling your name (not sponsored, I just love Target…I mean, who doesn’t?!).
Anyways, I hope you all have an amazing rest of your day! Talk to you all next week ❤
All the Best,
