Winter Skincare Routine | January 2017

Being Happy is Healthy and Being Healthy is Happy.

Hello, Everyone!!

Can you believe that it is the last couple days of January?! Time has gone by so fast! This week, I wanted to talk about something that has always been a very important part of my beauty routine: skincare.*

My mother is a huge advocate for healthy skin. She always told me that spending a little extra money on skincare products is worth every penny because skin isn’t something that can easily be repaired. However, it is important to note that the price of the item doesn’t necessarily define the quality of the product.

I have always had a fascination and interest in the world of beauty.  I was more than eager to mess around with make-up  (or secretly spritz on a little of my mother’s perfume 🙂  ) but it wasn’t until I was in high school that I took a deeper interest into the skincare aspect of  beauty.

Winter can always be harsh on the skin; wind and cold weather can wear down even the most healthiest of skin. It is especially important to keep skin properly hydrated and protected from the sun. There is a huge misconception about winter and SPF: many people assume that no sun equals no need for SPF. The sun’s harmful rays are always present even on the most overcast of days. Keeping skin protected with a product containing SPF is vital when leaving the house.

Here is my current cruelty-free winter skincare routine + two everyday tips on keeping skin healthy 🙂 Let’s get into it…

Starting with TIP #1: My first huge tip for healthy skin is water. Drinking water is essential for keeping skin hydrated from the inside-out, as well as essential for reducing the amount of blemishes that emerge over time. So choose a cute water tumbler or bottle and make it a goal to drink around 64 fl. oz. a day to keep your skin looking clear, as well as maintaining a hydrated body.

So, when I wake up in the morning I always go straight to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth.  I always wash my face with warm water to open my pores and get all the dirt out that settled on my face at night. Right after I dry my face , I immediately spray my The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner onto my face and wait for that to completely dry…which leads me to TIP #2…

TIP #2: I have acne-prone skin that is still suffering from pigmented scars, however this toner and application method has made visible difference as to the clarity of my skin over the past month. You are suppose to just shake the bottle and put it on a cotton pad and swipe it all over your face, but I was inspired by my sister’s spray toner. I bought a mini spray bottle from the travel section at Target and shook my toner (letting it all blend) and poured it into the spray bottle. Allowing the product to actually sit on the skin is much better than using cotton pads, because I always feel as though the cotton pads just absorb all the product.

Okay, so after the toner spritz I use my favorite lip balm, my Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Moisturizing Lip Balm , and I apply my day cream/moisturizer that has SPF 18 from Andalou Naturals. I have really been enjoying this brand as you may see throughout this post. It is the Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Day Shade Facial Lotion SPF 18, 2.7 Fluid Ounce. Amazon has the  best price for this product, so that it what I have linked it to. (Also, they changed their packaging, so that is why my products have a different packaging but everything I link is the exact products I am using). This product smells amazing and also is really hydrating for my skin without feeling oily or looking shiny throughout the day. Also, there is a lot of product in the tube and a little bit goes a long way. One thing to remember with day or night cream is to always bring it down to the neck. The neck is one of the most sun exposed parts of our body and often times people forget to protect it. So, protect the neck!!  🙂

I may apply a little Tea Tree Oil to some spots that are emerging or new, just as a precautionary method to stop further acne.

When I come back at the end of the day, I like to just jump into the shower and wash the day away. I remove any makeup with a make-up wipe from Burt’s Bees and in the shower I use The Body Shop’s  Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash  . This face cleanser is perfect for my sensitive and acne prone skin; each time I apply it to my face, I can feel the magic of Tea Tree Oil fighting any blemishes on my skin. I have been using this product for over a year now and I have noticed that the Tea Tree product line at The Body Shop has improved the look of my skin as well as helped protect it from future breakouts…so I HIGHLY recommend it!!!

Once a week I always use my Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask from The Body Shop, leaving it on for fifteen minutes and then washing it off with warm water in the shower. ( I usually do this before the cleansing process.) This always protects my skin from future breakouts, you can feel it tingling the moment the clay mask touches the skin. It is a face mask I have also been using for over a year now and I am completely in love with the results, so another HIGH recommendation from my beauty counter.

After showering, I dry my face and apply another spritz or two of my The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner 8.4 Fl.oz and use my Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Moisturizing Lip Balm while waiting for the toner to dry before applying my night cream.

For night cream I am really enjoying the Andalou Naturals Resveratrol Q10 Night Repair Cream, 1.7 Ounce .(Again, just to note that the new packaging has changed, so the color of the container is different but the product is the same) This cream is so hydrating and kind of smells a little like chocolate, or at least I think it does. I always wakeup the next morning with such a healthy glow to my face and it is all because of this product. I am just very happy with my skin when I use this product so I have no doubt it will remain an essential on my beauty counter.

The three brands of beauty and skincare products that I have mentioned today are The Body Shop, Burt’s Bees, and Andalou Naturals. All three of these brands are cruelty-free (they do NOT test on animals) and made with natural ingredients. I also tried to link the best prices I can find online for each of these products.

I hope you all enjoyed my skincare routine for the Winter season! I hope you give these products a try because they are truly worth every penny. Have an amazing weekend, and I will talk to you all next week!   🙂

All the Best,
